We need a volunteer with free time to post to social media for us. You will be cross-posting material for Sonneblom Foundation, our sponsors, our ambassadors, and beneficiaries, as we all work together and depend on one another. You will need a PC, internet access, and MS Excel (we will provide you with a template to track post in MS Excel). You must be comfortable with Facebook groups & MS Excel. No need to be creative, as we will provide the content. You will join various Facebook groups and post generic content initially, and time-sensitive content once you have established a reasonable audience.
Please help us save the lives of teenagers in crisis.
Reporting: You will be reporting to the founding director of Sonneblom Foundation, but you may be asked to assist other beneficiaries, sponsors, donors, directors and executive volunteers with ad hoc tasks when needed.
Hours: Since this is a volunteer position, we only require a minimum number of hours to fulfil the basic tasks required. If you could offer more, we would appreciate it, but we will not insist on more hours unless you are in a position to offer more. We need someone who will be available on at least a weekly basis, and not accumulate hours to once a month.
Location: This is a completely remote volunteer post. You can be based anywhere in the world, provided you meet our general criteria.
Languages: We communicate mainly in English and also in Afrikaans. If you are fluent in English, you will be short-listed. Afrikaans is a bonus.
General Criteria: We have some basic rules for our Volunteers and Agents, and this is subject to change without notice to protect us and all parties we associate with:
- You are not employed by Sonneblom Foundation. You are a volunteer or agent rendering your services, time, expertise, and personal equipment you use while doing work for Sonneblom Foundation, pro bono.
- As a non-counselling volunteer at Sonneblom Foundation, you are not allowed to provide any counselling services. If you wish to provide counselling services in future, you will have to reach out to the head of counselling at ANGIE DOT ORG DOT ZA.
- You may not represent Sonneblom Foundation in a decision-making and commitment capacity unless specifically authorised (Executive Volunteers) to do so. However, you are allowed to reveal your status as a volunteer should you wish, and reach out to family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances for support of the Sonneblom Foundation.
- You may not accept any money from donors. Please refer all donors and volunteers to our official website (https://sonneblom.org.za/), where they will find our banking details or payfast links they may use to donate.
- Should you be offered services, products, or expertise to the benefit of Sonneblom Foundation, inform your immediate supervisor and get them in touch with the contact person.
- You may not use any information you acquire or may have access to while rendering your services to Sonneblom Foundation for personal gain.
- In the execution of your duties as a volunteer, you may be asked to get in direct contact with a person in counselling, or the family or friends of a person in counselling. Any details revealed to you in such a case must be treated with absolute confidentiality and integrity.
- You may not act in such a way that you cause damage to the relationships with any beneficiaries, ambassadors, donors, sponsors, or other volunteers associated with Sonneblom Foundation.
- You may not act in such a way that you cause damage to the image and culture of Sonneblom Foundation, its ambassadors, donors, or sponsors.
- There will be an overlap of your work between Sonneblom Foundation, our beneficiaries, our sponsors, and donors. We all need each other and, in some ways, depend on one another.
- You will be added to a WhatsApp group to enable efficient communication between volunteers and the Sonneblom Foundation. This is an important form of communication for us, the same as our counsellors insist on video calls when taking calls from persons in distress. If you do not accept this, or leave a group without communicating with your supervisor first, we will see this as an immediate resignation from your volunteer post.
IMPORTANT: You are expected to complete assignments to the best of your ability. In all cases, we will disclose the assignment to you, and we will continue work only once you agree to do so. Should you, at any stage, feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable with the assigned work, speak to your immediate supervisor, and we will see if we can find you something more appropriate to assist with.
Besides any official tasks handed to you, you are also welcome to the following:
- Visit our website and acquaint yourself with what we do.
- Please follow our Facebook page and share material you feel is appropriate. Please be careful of spamming and always keep the social media guidelines regarding suicide in mind (we will receive a copy of that soon with your official documentation.
- Attend virtual (or physical) meetings you are invited to.
- Be a positive and engaging spokesperson for Sonneblom Foundation.
- Spread the word regarding the work of Sonneblom Foundation, AD Suicide Prevention Group, ANGIE DOT ORG DOT ZA, and other beneficiaries where applicable.
Compensation – yes, we are repeating this on purpose: We cannot offer you cash compensation. We will ensure you, or your business, are recognised as one of our valued volunteers on our website. If we find another way to compensate you, we will consider it.
Volunteer Status: You will be listed as a volunteer in the register of volunteers at the Sonneblom Foundation.
For more information, please email your CV/portfolio and motivation to riaan@sonneblomfoundation.org.
